Description

UAB Campus Recreation offers a variety of community league sports, including basketball and indoor soccer, volleyball, etc. to the community. There will be a Women's, Men's and Co-Rec (men & women) divisions offered for each sport. Anyone 18 years of age or older is eligible to participate. All community leagues are open to both UAB affiliated and non-UAB affiliated persons.

The parking lot has the following features :

* Accessible spaces designated with International Symbol of Accessibility on an upright sign /60 inch min/
* Access aisles /3 feet min/ adjacent to accessible parking spaces leading to entrance or entrance path
* Designated van accessible parking spaces
* Slope of accessible spaces does not exceed approximately 1:50 /1 degree/ in all directions

The sidewalk/paved path connecting the building entrance to the parking lot has the following features :

* At least 3 feet wide
* Free of obstacles or hazards that are difficult to traverse
* Surface smooth and firm

The curb cuts have the following characteristics :

* Slope is not too steep /less than 5 degrees/
* Free of breaks in the surface
* A detectable warning

Getting into the Building

The entrance doorways have the following features :

* Door opening is at least 32 inches wide
* Door threshold is flush with the ground or only slightly raised /less than or equal to 1/4 inch/

Parking is difficult at UAB. Some of the parking lots are far away from the UAB Recreational Center, and this could potentially be a barrier.

I do not think the UAB Community Leagues offers any teams that are wheelchair friendly. However, I have seen wheelchair users shoot basketball, on their own, in the gym before. I was unable to contact anyone that could give me any additional information about this.
